The weekend of June 26, 2014 marked the first annual Special Edition: New York City comic convention and although it lacked a lot of the luster that comes with the high profile con’s, this show is worth a trip into the city. Experiencing the show for the first time, John Rummo, personal friend and co-host of Hold the Sauce, and I made the trek down to the Javits center six months earlier than our normally scheduled fall trip. Taking place in the “hanger” section of the Jacob Javits center (the larger exhibition center was being used for graduation ceremonies, which made for ample cosplay oriented photo-bombing opportunities), this event was only the size of New York Comic Con’s yearly artist alley. However, this didn’t seem to be an issue, as the main focus of the show was on comics...Read More
Anime Next is one of those yearly events that I find myself getting more and more excited for as the convention ages. This year was no different, as the coordinators scheduled a slew of great guests, panels, exhibitors, and even an amazing opening night concert by Rookez Is Punk’d that I won’t soon forget.
Taking place at its yearly venue of choice, Peter and I rolled into the Garden State Exhibition Center in Somerset, NJ around 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The engine that runs the comic book industry is recommendations. Denizens of comic shops across the world are more than happy to let you know exactly how they feel about their favorite or least favorite facets of entertainment. There is always some debate as to what the original source of these recommendations are, but long story short, it’s a community that loves to share, bicker, and debate. Everyone has their “hater” friends who can always find something wrong with any book, while some recommenders are more like me, and are able to find a positive note in most of their reads.
For quite some time Pete and Joe (founding members of Nerd Appeal Media Network) had be...Read More
